I love how Trent Reznor treats his fans, awesome stuff. Just enter your email address and post code and you’ll get an email with the download link. The track is pretty damn good, it’s the cliche NIN sound but I never seem to get tired of it. In the ID3 tag under comments it says to visit NIN on the 5th of May. Hopefully an album release, who knows, I’m keen though.

From Trent’s blog posts and the numerous releases, he’s obviously testing the waters to see what the best model is to sell his music, without fucking over the fans at the same time, and it’s something that very few high profile artists are doing. He’s definitely gaining a lot of cred from the internet community and his fans. I just hope other artists and record companies are taking notice of what he’s doing.

So I preordered my copy of Radiohead’s In Rainbows album, as you may have noticed in the previous post the digital download of the album had no set price, you simply paid what you wanted for the album, if you wanted to you could put in Â£0, and I’m sure some did, I decided to pay roughly the same amount I would pay on the iTunes store, Â£7:50, now that I think of it actually it’s probably a buck or two more than an iTunes album, ahh well. The point is, and this is a big point, that record companies simply don’t seem to get, even though it’s common knowledge, if people are going to pirate an album they are simply going to do it, myself included, I’ve bought the odd album off iTunes, mainly EMI stuff because it’s available DRM free, and that’s a big step for a large record company. But what Radiohead is doing is making a good point and I like that, which is why I will spend my hard earned on the album. and when Trent Reznor and NIN do similar things to their next album, I’ll support that too.
