New Photo Gallery
Posted on: October 8th, 2005 at 4:40pm By: Sebconn

Well I finally got that photo galery up and running again. I’m using Gallery2 now and it’s jam packed full of features and unbelievably easy to configure. So you’ll see on the left there I have a new section showing a random image from my gallery, and you can click on the photos link above to get to the main gallery. Thanks to Brock for supplying the photos for my first gallery, they are pics from the Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger gig I went to the other night, nice one.

New Look
Posted on: August 15th, 2005 at 6:09pm By: Sebconn

I started making a new layout for my site a week or so ago, but I got a freelance web job and that has started to take up a fair chunk of my time. Nevertheless I put together a slightly different look and colour scheme. My old nav bar was annoying me no end, and even thought I did get it working nicely on all browsers, I still didn’t like how it looked. So it’s gone, and has been replaced with a nice basic navigation at the top. I will eventually finish my new look site, but clients take priority of course.

On other notes, starting to really heavily look for work in Melbourne now. I finish up at my current workplace at the end of the year and it’s time for me to get to the big smoke, I’m looking forward to next year, something different.

One of the bigger projects I’m working on is my portfolio script. Full user interface and interactivity, traffic light style warnings for missing and insecure issues, automatic user addition in conjuntion with most login scripts, and it looks pretty too. Probably the biggest PHP application (yes…I think this one is big enough to call it an application) I’ve ever taken on, and it’s all coming together very quickly. I’m finding myself having to reference sites and forums for tips and code snippets a lot less than usual and I don’t make random mistakes like missing quotes and semi-colons. Hopefully once it’s up and running at my workplace they will be able to keep it going for as long as they want without me there.

I’m off to philip island for four days. If I’m lucky I can get a decent photo of a penguin to post on my moblog. We’ll see what happens.

Quiet Times and a directory browser.
Posted on: July 16th, 2005 at 5:20pm By: Sebconn

Not much going on at the moment, getting into the swing of things and looking for work in the big smoke (Melbourne). I’m totally happy with my moblog script, works just how I want it to. I’m going to adapt it soon and release it, I’ll also make it usable via a standard Picture of the Week script where the info can be sent from any computer to a specified email address rather than optimised for a MMS style layout. On top of that I’ve added a directory browsing script that displays like any Windows or Mac OS icon layout, which arranges it self to fit nicely to any size using floating divs. Nothing special really, but I think there’s a few people who would like to do away with the Apache or IIS layout and be able to display files in a better way. I use the same script at my Workplace on the intranet using an iframe and it works brilliantly.

Oh and I can’t stop playing Battlefield 2, it’s way too much fun. Just need a nicer computer so I can make it look like it’s supposed to.

Ever since moving to a div layout for this site I’ve encountered nothing but trouble with IE5 for Mac. as soon as I get one issue out of the way, another one arises, So to all you Mac IE 5 users out there, (all <3% of you) I’ll have the issues fixed asap.

Moblog & Kidlog
Posted on: June 2nd, 2005 at 10:32pm By: Sebconn

Well I spent quite a few hours over the last few days writing a MoBlog script, for those of you that don’t know a MoBlog is a a picture baed blog where you send your pictures taken on your mobile phone to an email address and it displays on your page. I got it going really well, had everything set up and running nicely on my local testing server, so I uploaded it to my web host where this very site is hosted, and I find out that it doesn’t support any of the PHP IMAP functions that I use in the script, all the imap functions are an extension file which you simply have to uncomment in the php.ini file. So I have 2 choices, either I beg and pead with my web host to enable the extension, which frankly isn’t an issue, the only reason I can think of to restrict the imap functions is it possible uses too much resources or something, but I very much doubt that, or I could rewrite the script connecting to the mail server using FTP, which I think you can do. So that sucks, ahh well you know what they say about assumption, it’s the mother of all f**k ups.

On another note my Kidlog script has come along nicely. Kidlog is the name for the new project I’ve been working on, explained here I’ve finished most of the major objectives of the script, just a few extra features to add on. Some of it’s features include, highly customisable view options, strict form validation, printer friendly view with page breaks, image upload, full editing capabilities, add photos to already added records, remove photos and replace photos.

I’ll get a demo happening on the web site soon, and eventually a freeware version will be available to download from this site.
