Steam on a Mac?

I sees it but I don’t believes it. That’s right you can now run pretty much any Windows application on your Intel Mac without a copy of Windows, using the Crossover application. I’ve only had it installed for about 20 minutes but I’m allready baffled at how smooth it is. I can’t wait to give CS a bash. My poor old onboard Intel GPU won’t be able to handle source, But CS will do me for now.

On another note, I’ve got another career change in the midst, I’ll leave it at that for now.

WoW is WOW!

My WoW CharacterAfter quite a few months of bitching to a mate about how nerdy and boring that whole World of Warcraft game looks, I for some reason bought it the other day when I was out christmas shopping, hell knows why, but it will certainly give me something to do on those boring weekdays during the holidays.

I’m simply baffled by it, how involved it is, how BIG the place is and how much fun is actually is, I really wasn’t a fan of any of the Warcraft series or any other game remotely similar to it for that matter. I didn’t really realise that this was entirely different (yeah I shoulda known but I never took notice). This morning I walked into one of the major cities in WoW for the first time, haveing messed around with quests in the little towns where I started, and I couldn’t believe it, the MMORPG genre really clobbered me in the head, there were people everywhere, trading goods, talking, walking around, dueling, dancing, banking, eating. It’s a bloody busseling metropolis.

This game has me by the gonads and it won’t be letting me go for quite a while methinks.

Ubuntu Breezy
Posted on: November 29th, 2005 at 4:48pm By: Sebconn

I screwed up my machine the other day, I won’t get into how, anyway I had no access to my Windows CDs because I left them at work. So I decided to download myself a Linux Distro to tie me over, I downloaded Ubuntu, mainly because it was the smallest ISO to download. I have to say I’m pretty impressed. I generally like to support the underdog in certain situations, and If I didn’t like my computer games and my Macromedia software so much I think I could quite easily do without Windows, I’m still using Ubuntu, but soon I will have the urge to once again blow people up in BF2 and kick peoples asses in Need For Speed: Most Wanted. Ubuntu makes it very easy to install software via the terminal, downloading and installing applications with a simple command, Openoffice is installed, so I’m sorted there, Firefox is exactly the same and I can use bluefish for my web development. I do definitely miss my Fireworks, and my Dreamweaver however, I only use the coder part of Dreamweaver these days but I just feel more comfortable with it, you know what it’s like.

On another note in developing my work’s yearly DVD I went looking for a good free Photo Tiled Mosaic program for Windows, and I found a brilliant program called Andreas Mosaic, Take a look, you can’t go wrong.

XHTML and Broken knees
Posted on: October 13th, 2005 at 11:01pm By: Sebconn

I’ve been working on a new layout for my work’s site this week, I’m getting better and better at nice XHTML & CSS layouts. It’s a rather basic looking layout but very functional. Heres a sneak peak. It I really like this style of layout, putting all the relevent info on the one screen, and it spaces it out very nicely. I so wish I could use full transparent PNGs with this to make it easier for content over the space to the right of the latest gallery picture, I still might but I have to use javascript so that IE can actually do it properly, which I don’t like doing too much. The site adapts to all resolutions very well and the only large image is the background, which is a very low quality jpeg, not weighing in at more than 20k, considering the super small size of the rest of the page, it’s quite good.

On another note, my kneecap popped out of place again this afternoon, the second time that has happened. All I can say is ow, it’s so damn painful, now I have to limp to the fridge to get my beers, damn shame that.

Infra-Red Camera
Posted on: September 20th, 2005 at 2:10pm By: Sebconn

Turned on MonitorI was browsing the web today…as you do when you’re on holidays and bored silly, and I came across a page on ehow.com explaining how to turn an ordinarly webcam into an infra-red camera. naturally I thought what a load of bollocks, but I opened my drawer and grabbed out the webcam that I got for free with….something, I can’t really remember what, and proceeded to rip it to bits, following the instuctions on the site. basically you take out a glass filter that is already on the lense, and replace it with 2 little squares of exposed photo film (the black part). Somehow find a way to attach them securely, and put it back together. And low and behold it worked like a charm, couldn’t believe it. Try it yourself The photo above is an ordinary remote control, you can use it as a torch!
